Children & War

Memorial Day, the day to remember those who have lost their lives in military service, touches every person--especially in a war that seems senseless to so many. Perhaps no where is the loss of a cherished life more felt than by the child of war. This post is dedicated to the children (worldwide) that are victims of war.

Did you know?
• About 700,000 children in the U.S. have at least one parent deployed overseas for military duty (APA Task Force, 2007)
• More than 2,733 of U.S. children have lost a parent in the Gulf War (APA Task Froce, 2007)
• Families have one year to move off the base when the military member is killed, resulting in children losing their home, military resources, and sometimes school and friends (APA Task Force, 2007)
• Internationally, 250,000 children have been placed in militia, rebel forces and other armed groups (UN Report)
• There are about 13.5 million refugee children and 15 million internationally displaced children—many are unaccompanied as they’ve lost their families (UN Report)
